Welcome to the fifth week of ‘Our World, Our Stories’.
The theme is ‘Traditional Stories and Festivities’.
The children in B4 hope you enjoy their version of the legend of
‘Te Ika a Maui – The Fish of Maui’.

Our Local Environment: Reefton, NZ

We also live in an area of temperate rainforest. Reefton is in a valley surrounded by hills and mountains. Our winters can be frosty or foggy or rainy and the summers can be hot.
Reefton is inland and it takes an hour to drive to the closest ocean (and to the nearest big towns).
Our town has a mining history. Nowadays there are fewer mines and more dairy farms.
Visitors come here for the tramping, biking, rafting, fishing, the mine tours and the history.

We’ve seen that a lot of our friends around the world eat similar foods to us, although the foods might have different names.

A Typical School Day in Reefton, New Zealand

We’re excited to add our video of a typical school day in Reefton, New Zealand.
We live in a small community of about 900 on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Our school is an Area School, which means we have students from Year 1-13 (5-18 years old). There are about 200 students at our school.
We have 21 students aged 6 and 7 in our class, a mascot (a kea called Quicksilver) and two teachers.
Mrs McKenzie first came to teach in Reefton in 1983, and she takes the class for maths, literacy and art, and Mrs Webb who takes Topic, PE, Arts and handwriting.
Our school year started at the end of January and will finish for the summer on December 12.
