Dear B4,
We loved your slideshow. We think you are very lucky to have a pool at your school! It is very cool that you have a lot of different playgrounds, we have one big one and one small one for the pre-schoolers and kindergartners. Which playground do you play on the most? We were wondering if you have lockers.
Also, what is rugby? Some of us have heard of it but we don’t play it at recess. Is it fun? Is it rough?
We noticed that your play equipment is made of wood, and some of you play in bare feet. Do you get splinters? Ouch!
Sincerely,
Mr. Salsich and his class

Dear Mr Salsich
Yes rugby is a rough game but we are not allowed to play tackle rugby at school because we might get hurt .

Dear Mrs. McKenzie and B4,
We loved imagining what school playtime must be like in New Zealand!
A few things that are similar to recess and lunch in Sointula are:
Sophie: We both have class computers, but we can’t play on ours during recess and lunch unless it is a rainy day (really rainy).
Brooklynn- We have a cage around our tennis/basketball court
Gwen-We both have a field and playground equipment
Karin-We both have covered areas
Ana-We both can play with Lego on in days
There are definitely some differences too:
Mia-You have a climbing wall and we don’t
Lily-You have an outdoor swimming pool! We are very jealous, although it probably would never be warm enough to use it when we are actually at school.
Brooklynn-You have tarps for your covered area and we have a big cement ceiling
Ana-We only have one playground
Karin-You can go barefoot outside and we can’t. We noticed kids on the field with bare feet. If we did that we would get goose poop all over our feet!
Sophie-We have a forest to play in
Trista-We don’t have cars in our classroom
Here are some of our burning questions:
Brooklynn-Do you have a fence around your field?
Sophie-Do you you have to worry about getting anything gross on your feet when you go barefoot?
Lily-Do you have pool toys?
Karin-Can you go in the pool whenever you want?
Ana-What kind of trees are at your school?
Trista-Is the pool only open in the summer?
Gwen-Do you have geese?

Dear Gwen
We don’t have geese but you remind me about the time when I fell to a duck pond. I went with Dylan Mason Bonnie and Andrea and my mum Keri to a restaurant.
We were feeding the ducks when I walked down the step then I fell in only my ankles of my tights got wet.
I had to sit down in the van when I was wet cos I didn’t want to take my pants off because I don’t like people seeing my knickers then we went back to the motel and changed into a tank top and some skinny jeans.

Dear Tyla,
We really liked your story about the duck pond. It must not have been very fun falling in. More than half of our class made connections after reading your reply. Students in our class have fallen in ponds, the lake, animal droppings, and various other things. This was quite the morning discussion starter!

Dear B4,
What a fantastic post about your recess and lunch!
The first thing that caught our eye was the swimming pool! Wow! You are lucky ducks!
∆ Madison: Can you dive in the pool or is it too shallow?
∆ Leila: Is there a diving board?
∆ Sasha: Is the pool open to other people in the community?
∆ Mia: Do you have to pass a swimming test to go in the pool?
∆ Logan: Do you play games like Marco Polo in the pool?
∆ Sarah: How many people are allowed in the pool?
∆ Ellie: Is there a certain grade level that can go in the pool?
Clearly, the pool is a fascinating feature for our class!
Your post made a real splash with the class! Ha Ha!

Dear Mrs Watson and Grade 2/3, Mrs Yollis and Grade 3 and Mr Salsich and Grade 3
☆ Thank you for all of the wonderful questions! ☆
We think we are lucky to have a pool too!
Most schools in NZ used to have school pools although primary schools usually had smaller pools.
Now many schools are closing their pools because of the cost of running and upgrading them.
Our pool is mainly used in February and into March for school swimming programmes in PE.
Our two junior classes used to go to the town pool because it was warmer and had a better shallow end.
Now our school pool is being adapted a little to make a shallow part (can you see it in the photo?), and it will heated so the junior classes can use the pool for lessons too.
We might even be able to open the pool soon!
During lessons we work hard to learn to swim.
When the pool is open at lunchtime we get to play. We can play with tubes and float boards.
We only have 200 kids at school and only some choose to swim at lunchtime so it doesn’t get too full.
There is no diving board.
The children have to be able to swim a length before they can go in the deep end.
Over the summer school families can have a key to the pool but kids have to have adult supervision.

What a great slideshow! I think your school is very pretty!
You guys are so lucky to have a tennis court and a swimming pool! My brother would love that tennis court!
Here are some differences about your school and my school.
• We don’t have a swimming pool and you do.
∆ We don’t have a tennis court and you do.
• We can’t take off our shoes and you can.

Dear B4,
I loved your slideshow! You have a really nice school!
I noticed some differences between our schools:
• You wear uniforms and we don’t.
• You can wear sandals and we can’t.
• You can take off your shoes during recess and lunch, we can’t.
• You have a climbing wall and we don’t.
I also have a few questions:
How many basketball hoops do you have?
What are some games that you play in the class other than cars?
What types of games do you play under the trees?
Do you like wearing uniforms?

Dear B4,
I loved your post!
Did you know that my birthday, February 22, is during your summer but our winter! Your school seems so cool because it has a pool, a big grassy area, and a quad. I like my school, but I wish it had all those things.
What are most of your students favorite activities to do at recess and lunch?
What is the pool water made out of? Salt water or Chlorine?

A fantastic post to a wonderful global buddies!
At recess time in the Northern Territory we:
-feed the animals on the farm (chooks, cows, buffalo, roosters, pigs, ducks)
-collect chooks eggs
-cuddle the cows or take them for a walk
-enjoy discos
-go to recess reads (library book club)
-go to skipping club (our assistant principal loves skipping with ropes and taught us lots of skipping games)
-swim in the preschool pool
-play rugby and AFL on the oval and try not to be swooped by plovers!
and lots more.
On another note, Remembrance Day is coming up 11/11/11 and we are going to collate our family histories of war over the generations. War has divided the world but your global classroom is reconnecting it again. We have an idea to share with you. We would love it if we could all share stories in a global tribute and show the world that we will always remember our family heros on Remembrance Day.

hi
We’re Ganda and Holly in b4.
We really like your comment and Holly gives her cow a hug or walks her to get her milked. Holly’s cow has a baby calf.
In our school we don’t have cows and the pool is only open in the summer and we do not collect chicks eggs because we don’t have chickens and we don’t have a buffalo, or a rooster, or pigs, and ducks.
Do you live in a farm?
Do you have any horses or ponies?
best wishes

Dear B4,
We like your video. We don’t have a quad and we don’t have a tennis court either.
We play four square here at our school. However, we don’t use a tennis ball. That sounds very small and hard to hit. Is it?

Dear Mrs McKenzie and class,
You have a wonderful school for recess. I can see you have some great playground equipment as well as a large playing area. I like the sun shades in the quad for hot days. My schools were also sun smart with hats having to be worn int he warmer terms.

You are very lucky to have a pool. I am kind of jealous. I think you’re lucky that you have a basketball court. I wish that I lived there with you, and if I did I will take all of my friends with me too!
I can’t take off my sneakers but I try to sneakily take them off but Mr. Salsich always spots me. Some times I take them off for 20 minutes before he notices.
